We can make a difference!

Our vision inspires the whole John Wesley CEM Primary School community to engage in social action and to be courageous advocates for change in our local, national and global communities. We recognise that life is full of ups and downs and that at times all people will face challenges that they need help and support in overcoming. We have a long tradition of charity support in our local area, nationally and globally. The school council work with staff, leadership, Friends of the School and local Methodist and Anglican Churches to identify worthy causes to support. We aim to instil the values of service and compassion for others among our pupils and, accordingly, organise fundraising events to benefits a whole range of causes.

Christians believe that every person has a unique task to do, with God, and for God, whether they know it or not. We hold and courageously advocate the conviction that there is something mysterious, and potentially wonderful, in everybody. Our Christian values ensure that opportunities to discuss the big issues, to challenge injustice and to engage in activities that can bring about change are always present. Our school stands up for what we believe. We have met with Local Councillors to raise issues of significance to the school community, including road safety around our school.

In recent years we have carried out a range of different fundraising activites to support many good causes, some of which include:

• Local Foodbanks and Vinnie’s Diner
• Ashford Vineyard’s 1000 Thousand Hours of Kindness
• Porchlight (for local, young homeless people)
• The Children's Society
• Sports Relief
• NSPCC
• Comic Relief
• Children in Need
• Macmillan
• The Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal

Our school community and curriculum actively embraces a responsibility for the world in which we live. We are diligent to show our connection with, and care for, the world and the people who live in it:

• Eco-Brick Project (working with to recycle thousands of 2-litre plastic bottles to form purposeful furniture for our outside area)
• Charities of significance to our children (we have families of pupils & staff who are battling cancer)
• Developing links with schools locally, nationally and internationally (to learn about the similarities, differences & how we can help support/develop each other through these)

Our chosen charity this year is Pilgrim’s Hospice.

Pilgrims Hospice is dedicated to ensuring people living with a terminal illness can access the quality care and comfort they deserve, when and where they want it as well as supporting the families through this difficult time.
